The seventh training of trainers’ workshop in a series of 9 ToT modules was held from the 21st to the 25th January 2013, at RWTH Aachen, Germany.

The training was organized and delivered by Dr. Hani Sewilam, Project Coordinator, Aachen University and Ms. Sarah Youssef project partner at Wadi Environmental Science Centre, WESC.

In reference to the dissemination event “Explore the World of Education for Sustainable Development” that was planned to take place in Bibliotheca Alexandrina this week, on 30-31 January 2013, we are sorry to announce that the workshop is postponed till March 2013 due to the current unrest in Alexandria.

The next event  “Bio-Agriculture and Water Wheel Irrigation System in Fayoum” on February 13, will take place as planned.

Tracking the Roots of Organic Agriculture

Sustainable agriculture stands on the roots of a sustainable society as agriculture forms the basis of our existence. Organic agriculture provides people both with safe and healthy food as well as a healthy, flourishing environment. The Fayoum Governorate is characterized by the spread of farms working according to organic principles. Moreover, it is the second largest governorate in producing herbal and medical plants in Egypt. It is famous for its unique irrigation system based on the ‘water wheel’.

After the initially planned workshop on November 25 and 26 had to be cancelled given the unrest in the country we are happy to announce the new date for the workshop. Within the framework of Education for Sustainable Development Beyond the Campus (EduCamp) TEMPUS Project, the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in collaboration with Wadi Environmental Science Centre (WESC) and Alexandria University are organizing a two-day workshop titled “Fun through Learning Sustainable Development”, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center.

EduCamp: Dissemination seminar, Suez Canal University, Ismailia - Egypt

Organized and hosted by Suez Canal University, an EduCamp seminar took place on the 20th November 2012 promoting the concept of Education for Sustainable Development beyond the campus.

The activity aimed at addressing the main principles of Sustainable Development as well as introducing the concept of Education for Sustainable Development and its relation to the individual’s day to day life. 350 participants attended the seminar, among which there were university students, university deans, professors and media representatives.

Regarding the dissemination event of EduCamp project, SCU invite you to share in a students’ conference on Tue. Nov. 20, 2012 at the Faculty of Education, Ismailia, Egypt, where students are encouraged to present their innovative work relevant to Sustainable Development concepts. The event will start with an introduction by Prof. Dr. Shaban Hefny the Dean of the Faculty followed by a presentation by Mrs. Sara Youssef to make students and colleagues aware of EduCamp and ESD concepts. Dr. Hussein Abdelfatah will participate with a session that shows the benefits and changes in teaching methods and evaluation in a light of ESD and how this changes reflected on the learning process and outcomes particularly within Educational Technology students. In addition to their presentations and projects, students will make a short and relevant play to ESD concepts.
