Objective 1: Establishing University Centres of Excellence to Promote ESD

The first step to achieve this objective was a Needs Analysis (D.1.1) , that was devoted to understand the current situation in the Egyptian universities and schools and identify the tasks and facilities of the Centers on ESD. Through questionnaires that were developed, it was possible to find out to what extent the participating universities fulfill the basic requirements in their teaching methodology, capacities and infrastructure to serve as a future ESD Center of Excellence. The Need Analysis delivered valuable insights in the teaching methodologies and the flexibility and creativity of university professors and school teachers. Secondly, we gained knowledge about the support and capacity that institutions provide for educators to develop additional educational aids as well as the linkages between different subjects. Finally, an overview was generated on the practical application of the class room knowledge outside the classroom.

Objective 2: Developing Teaching ESD Resource Kits for Schools

The activities to reach this objective are the core of the project and its success is essential to ensure the success of the whole project. Under the leadership of CEIFA Portugal almost the whole consortium was involved in this package and even added one more activity that was not included in the original proposal.

Objective 3: Developing Innovative ESD Teaching Methodologies

Three main were defined in the original proposal to reach this objective, two of which have already been completed. These are the development of innovative teaching methodologies (D.3.1) and the development of teachers’ guides for the ESD kits (D.3.2).
So far the third projects objective is achieved what is remaining is D.3.3 which is to strengthen the role of females in the education process. This is not affecting the third objective and it was planned anyway to be completed in October 2012.
The activities to reach the third objective link directly to the success of the project as it is considered a cornerstone that links WP2 (developing ESD content) and WP4 (teacher TOT) together.
It also leads to achieving Objective 4 which specifically deals with developing Trainer of Trainers program where participants of these workshops are expected to be trained on the content achieved in objective two and teaching methodology in objective three

Objective 4: Training of Trainers Program on ESD

This objective is the second heaviest objective in the project in which all the consortium partners are involved under the leadership of Graz University in Austria. An analysis to identify ESD training needs of Egyptian school teachers as well as university professors, who will act as teacher trainers, has been carried out (D.4.1). These results have impact both the selection process to select trainees for the TOT modules (Training of Trainers Modules) as well as the development of the TOT modules itself as the contents can be planned according to the needs of the teachers and trainers.

Objective 5: Developing an EU-EG Virtual Environment for School University Partnership

To achieve this objective, the project proposal specified four activities.
The first activity is to enhance the IT Infrastructure (D.5.1), most of the necessary steps have been carried out except the final procurement of the equipment which is waiting to make the correct estimation of all the needed equipment in the project after developing the contents in objective 2 and 3.
