The Project Educamp aims to promote the Education for Sustainable development in the Egyptian society and brings Universities and schools together in a structured mechanism. To that end seven centers of excellence have been established, which provide teacher training on the use of the developed ESD-Kits for grades 5 to 9 and which are hosting a virtual environment for sharing knowledge to be reached online from everywhere and every time in Egypt.

From November, 25th till November 28th, 2013 this Blended Learning training on using the University School-Society Knowledge Sharing System and the Virtual Environment from the ESD Centers was held at the American University in Cairo. 14 participants – who are all ESD-center employees - were introduced into using the ICT-systems which are developed and installed during the Educamp-Project and be hosted by the ESD centers after the project finishes.

In this course the participants learned the first steps in using IT-technology to enhance their face-to-face courses. They learned how to use the ESD-learning management system to create new online courses, use this system as a knowledge base, create eLectures, use learning paths, and how to work with different supporting tools.

The course gave an introduction to the rich possibilities of technology enhanced learning, teaching and knowledge sharing and covered the following topics as detailed as possible:

  • Core principles of computer based learning
  • Using and operating Moodle eLearning management system
  • Knowledge Sharing through online-discussions: Forums, Chats and Messaging
  • Assessing learners understanding: Assessments and quizzes
  • Using tools for collaborative learning and knowledge sharing
  • Using Camtasia to record online lectures, tutorials or knowledge nuggets
  • Using and integrating existing Online platforms and tools into eCourses
  • If available in the seminar room: Using the interactive ESD-whiteboard (SMART Board) of the ESD-Centres to enrich a presentation
