From Sunday September 1st to Thursday September 5th, the American University in Cairo (AUC) pilot implementation was held for 5-days from 9am to 3pm. The event was organized under the auspices of the American University in Cairo-Center for Sustainable Development-Unit of Excellence for Education for Sustainable Development. During the pilot implementation, the professors that have participated in the EduCamp Training of Trainers Module trained teachers from an experimental school in the vicinity of AUC. The training consisted a number of sessions addressing Sustainable Development from the different perspectives: Our world, biodiversity, agriculture, energy, and water.
The objectives of the pilot implementation were to support, enable, and prepare school teachers to introduce education for sustainable development techniques in their daily teaching routine. The training focused on new learning methodologies as well as the EduCamp ESD resource kits. The AUC pilot implementation was attended by 23 teachers from Bint Elshatea Experimantal School in New Cairo District. The school covers primary as well as preparatory education and has a total student number of 1400.
The pilot implementation provided an opportunity for exchange of ideas and experiences between the AUC trainers and school trainees of their experiences in Education for Sustainable Development and the Egyptian educational system.
